Chairman’s Report

The AGM on the 7th April went very well and those who attended were given updates on our activities during the year as well as information on the changes to legislation that are currently going through. Under any other business one of the matters raised was the 84 bus route and with this newsletter, you will find a 'petition' that we propose to put to the Parish Council and Metro Bus, with a request that the route be restored to it's original route, through Crawley Down. Please do sign this petition to ensure that we get our bus route restored. Thanks go to those who braved the weather on a particularly wet and windy evening, and special thanks to those who have volunteered to assist with the Speed Watch (you may have seen them during training sessions) and also the two ladies who have volunteered to help with lifts to the Doctor if needed.

The consultation on the park rules has commenced, and is presently in very early stages with Berkeley Parks. Once consultation begins in earnest we will, of course, hold a special meeting. The licence fee charges are still under discussion across all the Sussex District Councils, but our current information is that the charges are likely to be fairly low.

Our next coffee morning is on the 23rd June, please do join us, and the next evening surgery is on the 25th June. We would particularly like to see new residents on the park, and will be happy to discuss any queries that you may have regarding life here at Turners Hill.

Forthcoming Events

There will be numerous events taking place in the village in the next 2/3 months, particularly the Village Fete on the 20th July, together with the Worth Horticultural Society Summer show which includes, flower and craft shows and would I challenge all the cooks here on the Park to enter some of the jam making, pickle and chutney making and cake making classes which are open to non members. There is a class for which the recipe is provided by the Society for a cake. There are also four classes open to photographers. If any interested residents will contact Jennie Forbes or myself, Linda Furzer, we can give you the relevant details and Application Forms. Let's throw down the gauntlet so that the Park is represented. I am about the only one who actually enters classes and we have some great cooks, needle workers and photographers on the Park, so 'Have a Go'.

Petition to Re-Route the No. 84 Bus

Now that Tulleys has downsized and there is now only a cafe, the Residents Committee feels that it would be appropriate at this stage to draw up a Petition asking if the No. 84 bus could return to its previous route through Crawley Down. This way our residents could get to the shops, Doctors' Surgery etc. Please read and sign the attached Petition and drop it in to the appropriate box in the Office. Many thanks.

Shop on the Park

Again we would ask if you could use the shop on the Park. We now have Vee's specials on our website so you can see the deals he has in store. It has to be said that if you don't use it, then it may be that we will not have this facility. Please make a special effort. Many thanks.

Volunteer Drivers

At the AGM, three residents came forward offering to assist anyone who did not have a car to drive them to Crawley Down Shops/ the Doctors' Surgery or East Grinstead. Their names, addresses and telephone numbers are posted on our Notice Board so that anyone who is interested can contact them. Our thanks go to these volunteers.

Chassis Inspections

If there is anyone who is interested in having their chassis inspected, then could they please contact Rod Emmett, 15A Woodpecker Way as it may be that there would be a reduction in the cost if more than one home was done at the same time.

Speedwatch

We now have five volunteers and, as their training is nearing completion, expect an increase in sessions during June and July, as always, subject to the weather. At long last we were able to deploy the Speed Indication Device [SID] outside the park on Friday May 16th [Jamie is pictured here]. The SID was also used on Wednesday June 4th. We will soon have the use of a small SID device which is being purchased by the Speed Watch Teams covering Crawley Down, Copthorne and Turners Hill. This will enable us to organise our own SID sessions on a frequent basis.

Neighbourhood Watch [NHW]

We will soon have a clear idea of how many residents have computers and thereafter will set up an email system to disseminate all the latest information on the new NHW scheme here on the park. We will also have an alternative for those who don't have a computer.

Enclosed with this Newsletter is an NHW front door sticker which we hope you will put on display to show potential miscreants that there IS an active NHW scheme in operation here. We can also obtain a "No cold callers" sticker and, if you would like one, then either e-mail Geoff.gant@yahoo.co.uk or else speak to a committee member.

In Memory of Dianne Dennis

Everyone on the Park will be sad at the death of Dianne Dennis, our Badger Lady. She did so much for the Badger Trust and what a treat for those of us who visited her, had a cup of tea and watched the badgers in her garden. I have been fortunate enough to obtain from the Trust some photos of Dianne (and Heather) with her much beloved badgers and these are shown below.

If there is a badger heaven, Dianne will be there doing her thing.
